LORD, I COMMIT MYSELF TO YOU

Psalm 111:7-10   v7 The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure.  They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.  He sent redemption unto his people:  he hath commanded his covenant for ever:  holy and reverend is his name.  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments:  his praise endureth for ever.

If we read carefully through the New Testament, we won't find it said that the commandments don't count any more.  Jesus even says that he has come to fulfill the law not to do away with it and goes even further in two of them when he says that holding onto anger and having lustful thoughts are sins.  When Paul says that we have been freed from the law, he is referring to the face that following Jesus' law of love means that we can't sin if we are doing the most loving thing we can do.  In fact, we are going beyond them by having "the work of our hands" being truth and justice.  We want to do God's work and help the poor and the vulnerable to be able to live lives confident of God's love for them.  We need to pay attention to the line "The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom."  This does not mean that we have to be afraid of God, but that we have to recognize that God is God, and we are NOT.  We need to be in awe of his power, and of his majesty.  We ARE NOT in CONTROL of our LIVES, no matter how much we think we are.  Once we accept that God is in charge, our lives become simpler.  We don't have to carry our burdens alone.  There is someone we can go to for help.  GOD is there to guide our steps when we make decisions.  All HE asks of us, is to praise HIM, and show our love for him by loving one another.  Is that really so difficult?
