LUKE'S ACCOUNT OF CHRIST'S BIRTH

LUKE'S account of CHRIST'S birth is found in the Second Chapter of Luke beginning with verse 2.

v2: There went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world was          to be taxed. Cyrenius was the Governor.
v3:  All went to be taxed into his own city.
v4: Joseph went up from the city of Nazareth to Judaea to the City of                David, Bethlehem.  (Because he was of the house of and lineage of            David.)
v7: Mary delivered her first born son Jesus and laid him in a manger.
v8: In the same country Shepherds were in the fields, and the glory of the          LORD shone around them....
v10: An angel said, "Fear not, I bring you good tidings of great joy....
v11: Born this day in the city of David (Bethlehem) a Savior, Christ the                  Lord!"
v12: This is a sign to you; you will find the babe wrapped in swaddling                   clothes, lying in a manager. (feed trough for sheep)
v15: After the Angels were gone back to heaven, the shepherds said to                one another, "Let us go to Bethlehem and see this thing which has              came to pass...."
v16: They came hastily to Bethlehem and found Mary and with the babe              lying in a manger....
v17: After the Shepherds (number not mentioned) had seen the baby, they          told all they came in contact with all they had been told about this                child.
v20: The shepherds returned to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for          the things they had heard and seen, as it was told to them.
v21: After eight days the child was circumcised and his name was called              JESUS, which was named and told by an angel before he was con-            ceived in the womb.
v22: After the days of Mary's purification, according to the Law of Moses,              were done, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the                  LORD.
v24: They offered a sacrifice, a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons as          said in the Law of the LORD.
v25: There was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon, just and devout,                  waiting for consolation of Israel and the Holy Ghost came upon him.
v26: It was revealed to him by the Holy Ghost that before he died he would          see the LORD's Christ.
v27: He came by the "Spirit" to the Temple where Mary and Joseph had              brought the child to present him to GOD.
v28: Simeon took the babe up in his arms and blessed God.
v29: Simeon said, "LORD, now let your servant depart in peace, according          to your Word.
v30: For my Eyes have seen your SALVATION.
v31: Which you have prepared before the face of all people."
v33: Joseph and his mother marveled at the things mentioned of him.
v34: Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, "BEHOLD, this              child is set for a fall, but will rise again of many in Israel; as a sign                which will be spoken against.
v36&37: Anna a prophetess was there, who stayed at the temple in Jeru-            salem and served God.
v38: She came into the temple and gave thanks to the LORD.  She spoke            of Jesus to all of them before he was born, to those looking for re-                demption in Jerusalem.
v39: And when they had preformed all things according to the Law of the            LORD, they returned to Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.
v40: The child grew and became strong in Spirit filled with Wisdom; and              the grace of GOD was upon him.
v41: His parents went up to Jerusalem every year for the feast of pass-                over.
v42: And when he was twelve years old, they went to Jerusalem for the                yearly passover feast....returning home they did not find him in their            company.  They asked among the family, "Where is Jesus?"  It was              told he had been left in Jerusalem.  Joseph and Mary returned to                  Jerusalem and found Jesus in the Temple teaching.  His mother Mary          asked her son why he had frightened them so?  Jesus said, "I must              be about my Father's business."

Note:  Joseph was told in a dream not to return home with the child after his birth, but to go into Egypt and stay for a while for the safety of the child.  King Herod had made a decree that when the Israelites had a male child it was to be killed.  He was afraid there were getting to be to many of them in Egypt and they might try to overthrow him. So the wisemen didn't come to see King Jesus until he was two years old and Jesus and his parents were living in a house.
