MOSES AT MOUNT SINAI

Moses and the Children of Israel had left Egypt to worship their God, the one true God.  When Moses and the Israelites came to Mount Sinai, they camped around the base of the mountain. This is at the beginning of their journey in the wilderness.  

God called Moses up to the top of Mount Sinai to give him the Ten Commandments and later wrote them on stone.  In Deuteronomy chapters 9 and 10 these scriptures tells the story of Moses receiving the Ten Commandments from God, which later God wrote them with his finger on two tables of stone. (one stone but two tables).  Moses begins speaking in chapter 9 of Deuteronomy and  verse 9.  Moses says, when I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which the LORD made with you, I abode there forty days and forty nights, neither eating bread nor drinking water.  The LORD delivered to Moses a stone, with two tables written on it (one stone) by the finger of God.  God wrote on  the stone all the words which the LORD spoke to all the people from the mount, out of the midst of the fire, on the day of the assembly.  

After forty days and forty nights, the LORD gave Moses the table of stone to take down to the people.  The LORD said to Moses, arise, go down quickly from here.  Your people, you brought out of Egypt have corrupted themselves.  They have made a molten imagine.  Then again the LORD spoke to Moses, I have seen these people, they are a stiff necked  people.  Let me alone, that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under the heaven and I will make of you, a nation mightier and greater than them.

As Moses turned and came down from the mountain, in his hands he had the two tables of stone, but when he saw that the people had sinned against the LORD their God, and made a molten calf and they had turned quickly from the way the LORD commanded them, Moses was so angry he took the two tables from his two hands, and broke them before their eyes.  Then Moses fell down before the LORD and  neither ate bread, nor drank water, because all the people had sinned and did wickedly in the sight of the LORD and provoked him to anger. 

Moses was afraid of the LORD's anger.  The LORD's anger was very wroth, with hot displeasure and God wanted to destroy the Children of Israel.  The LORD was also very angry with Aaron and wanted to destroy him also.  Moses prayed for Aaron and the people at the same time.  He took their sin, the calf, which they made, burned it with fire, stomped on it, ground it until it was very small, as small as dust.  Moses then took the dust of the calf dumped it into the brook, which flowed out of the mount.  

At Taberah, at Massah, at Kibrothattaavah, they provoked the LORD to wrath.  The LORD commanded the people to go up and possess the land which he had given them as an inheritance, but they rebelled against his command and did not believe Him, nor listen to His voice.  Moses once again fell down before the LORD for forty days and forty nights and prayed to him not to destroy His people and their inheritance.  Moses told the people to remember the LORD's promises to them about their inheritance of the land of promise.    The LORD didn't bring them out of Egypt because he hated them and wanted to kill them.  He brought them out to set them free frome a slave to bondage.  

The LORD told Moses to hewn a stone with two tables like the first which God hewn himself.  He was also to make an ark of wood.  So Moses made an ark of shittim wood and hewn two tables of stone like the first one and went up again to the top of Mount Sinai.  He had the two tables in his hands and the LORD wrote with his finger on the tables the same he wrote the first time, the Ten Command-ments.  Moses came down from the mount with the tables of stone and placed them "in" the ark of the Covenant, which he had built.  After that the Children of Israel continued on their journey to Mosera.  There Aaron died and was buried.  Eleazar his son, took over the priest's office, in his place.  They continued on their journey but before they moved on the LORD separated the tribe of Levi to bear the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD.  The tribe of Levi also was to stand before the LORD to minister to him and bless his name.

The tribe of Levi has no part in the inheritance with their brethren.  The LORD is the tribe of Levi's inheritance, as he promised the tribe of Levi.  Moses stayed in the mount and prayed to God that he would not destroy the Children of Israel.  The LORD then told Moses to, arise, and continue the journey with the people into the land of their inheritance and possess it, as the LORD swore into their fathers.  

I would like to make a confession at this time.  When I sat down to write this article, I realized I am unclear and do not know where in scripture, it relays the story of how Moses spoke to the Hebrews and explained to them while they were back in Egypt, teaching them  about about God and his promise of an inheritance in a land flowing with milk and honey.  If you know where the scriptures are, please email them to me.

HISTORY OF THE CHURCH OF GOD (SEVENTH DAY) (2025)
