THE GARDEN OF EDEN

The biblical Garden of Eden location is described in the book of Genesis 2:10-14:  And God planted a garden eastward "of" Eden.  Another scripture Genesis 2:8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward, "in Eden" and there he put the man whom he had formed. v10 And a river went out of Eden (city) to water the garden.  This to me indicates there was a city named Eden.  A river went out of Eden to water the garden, and the river flowed into four tributaries of water, making four rivers.  The rivers are the Pishon, the Gihon, Tigris, and the Euphrates.  Genesis also mentions the Land of Cush, translated or interpreted Ethiopia.  The Greeks called Pishon, Ganges, and the river Gihon, the Nile.  I believe if God had wanted us to know the exact location of the Garden, he would have told us the exact location.

The Pishon River compasses the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.  And the gold of that land is good.  In Genesis 25:18 Havilah is defined as the territory of the Ishmaelites.  In biblical literature it is debated and suggested that Havilah is southwest of the Arabian Peninsula or Somalia.  The Arabian hypothesis is strengthened by  the curator of the Harvard Semitic Museum, James A. Saver.  He identifies that the Pishon River incircles Havilah as the Wadi-al Rummah, a dry channel that begins in the Hija Mountains, near Medina and runs northeast of Kuwait.  Others identify Havilah as Tibet.  The Ishmalites settled between Havilah and Shur, and were ancestors of the Arabs.  The name of the second river was Gihon, which compasses the whole land of Ethiopia.  The name of the third river is Hiddekel, which goes toward the east of Assyria and the fourth river is the Euphrates.  Many, since the beginning of time have been concerned that the Tigris-Euphrates River would dry up.  The river's water is not clean for drinking in today's time.

The LORD planted a garden eastward of Eden and from the ground the LORD made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the eyes, and good for food.  (This tells us the garden was like an orchard).  In the middle of the garden God put the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.  Then the LORD took the man he created and placed him in the garden.  He told the man, of every tree of the garden you can eat, except for the "tree of the Knowledge" of good and evil.  You shall not eat of that tree, if you eat of it, you will surely die.

The LORD God said it isn't good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helpmeet.  So out of the ground the LORD GOD formed every beast of the field, every fowl of the air; and brought them to Adam to see what he would name all the living creatures.  Later God made woman from the rib of Adam as his wife.  Adam called the woman Eve, because she came from man.
