WHAT IS THE GODHEAD? IS THERE A TRINITY?
The definition of the Godhead is: deity, divine nature, and essence of God. The Godhead is not a physical thing. There is a scripture that says the Father and the Son and the holy spirit are one. That is a true statement, but they do not live in one body, God. The Holy Spirit is not a person or an entity. God is a spirit. We are to worship him in spirit and in truth. No where in scripture will you find that the holy spirit is another entity of God. The Holy Spirit dwells in us through Jesus Christ, it guides us in our walk through this worldly life. After Jesus was crucified and risen the third day and he was getting ready to return to his Father in Heaven, Jesus said where I go you cannot come, but I will ask my Father to send you a comforter in my place. I will never leave you comfortless. The Holy Spirit dwells in our hearts (feelings) and our minds.
In the New Testament there are a few scriptures that mention a Godhead. I am quoting from the King James Version of the Bible. I believe in using this version because it is the closest true translation from the original scrolls. The Old Testa-ment was written in Hebrew, and the New Testament in Greek, then translated into English and other languages. The first scripture on the Godhead is found in Acts 17. In this chapter Paul has been disputing daily with the Jews and devout persons of Athens about worshipping other gods. He is now speaking to the people from Mars Hill. He is asking the people why are you worshipping other gods? Who is this Unknown God you are spaking of and worshipping? We are the offsprings of God, we ought not think that the Godhead is like unto gold or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's devices. In this passage the word "Godhead" is translated from the Greek word theion. This Greek word is used by Greeks to denote "God " in general, no reference to a particular deity. Paul was using this term in reference to the "only" true God.
In Romans 1 Paul begins making a case that all humanity stands guilty before God. In verse 20 Paul says, "The invisible things of him from creation of the world are clearly seen being understood by the things that are made, even His (God) eternal power and Godhead,....Here Godhead is the Greek word theiots. Here all of creation virtually shouts the existence of God. We can see God's eternal power, as well as his Godhead in what He has made. The natural world makes manifest the divine nature of God.
Colossians 2:9 In Him (Christ) dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.
According to this verse, Jesus Christ is God incarnate, but not God himself. Christ and God works as one through the Godhead. God gave Jesus his essences and power and made him equal with himself (God). There is only ONE God, God the Father, Jesus is the ONLY begotten (born) son of God his Father. Jesus is part of the Family of God. He is God's only begotten son. Just like you and I are part of the family of our earthly father, James, Johnston, Smith or Jones. Jesus is the ONLY begotten (born) Son of God. God did not create Jesus. God took part of of himself, the Godhead, and begat Jesus before creation. John 1:2 says, Without Jesus nothing was created. Jesus Christ embodies the fullness of God (deity).
Colossians 1:19 says, For it pleased the Father that in him (Jesus) all fulness dwell. The Godhead dwells bodily in Christ. Jesus can rightfully claim that he and his Father are one in John 10:30. In John 14:9 Because the fullness of God's divine essence is present with the Son of God, Jesus can say "Anyone who has seen me, has seen my Father."
The Godhead is the essence of the divine being, God. The Godhead is the one and only deity. God made Christ deity and equal with Him. Jesus is the incarnate Godhead, who entered the world and showed us exactly who God is. John 1:18 and Hebrew 1:3 says, No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in close relationship with the Father, he has made God known. Where in any of these verses does it mention the Holy Spirit??? I didn't read anything about the Spirit. God is not a Trinity. The Father, the only begotten Son of God and the Holy Spirit do not exist in one body called God. God and his only begotten Son are the essences in the Godhead. As I have said before the Godhead is not a person or entity, but the essences, divine nature and deity of God.
I pray you will study for yourself and see the truth about the Godhead and the teaching of a Trinity.
