BODY, SOUL, SPIRIT

Each person, man or woman, is born into this world as a "being", made up of three distinct components: 1. Body (outward flesh, which will turn to dust some time after burial). 2. Soul - who you are, Individuality, heart, brain, feel, smell. The Soul dies with your body. 3. Spirit (God's breath he breathed into you and made you a living soul.)

The Body is your physical (out side covering) being. It is flesh made from a collection of mineral elements, but mostly water. Your body grows, matures, begins to deteriorate and eventually dies. The body decomposes back into its constitutional elements. (This includes your soul - inward parts) and goes back to the dust of the earth. (Proverbs 5:11...you mourn at the last, when your flesh and body are consumed.)

The Spirit is made to communicate or interact with God. The spirit is also what responds to Jesus Christ. Your spirit is also God's breath that he breathed into your nostrils so you became a living soul.

Most Christians are taught that our Spirit leaves our body and goes to heaven when we die. That is true. But it is also the only part of a being that goes to heaven. It returns to become part of God once more. The flesh (body) and Soul (inward parts) decays and returns to the dust it came from. Only our bones are in the grave. Our bones remain in the grave, just bones. Our mind and organs are all gone to dust. When Christ returns the scriptures say the dead in Christ will rise first, and those who are Christ's followers (disciples) and still alive, their bodies will be changed. When we come out of the grave we become a Spirit who will reign with Christ one thousand years.

When you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior, God gives you an operation. He gives you his Spirit by the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. This operation is a spiritual circumcision. Romans 2:29. Don't misunderstand this verse, God does not make you a spiritual "Jew" when he saves you, but he does adopt you into HIS family, whether you are a Jew or a Gentile. For we are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28). When you accept God's free gift of Salvation, you will begin to notice some changes in your thinking. You will find your heart (soul) grows more and more in agreement with God and his law, but your flesh (Body) will still want to go to the way of the flesh.

In order to be saved, your spirit must be reborn. You cannot change yourself from your sinful nature, but God can change you, if you accept HIS gift of salvation by his amazing Grace.

When we accept God's free gift of salvation and receive forgiveness for our sinful nature, we will receive eternal life, but not until we are resurrected from our graves.

Psalm 6:5 - For in death there is NO remembrance of you: in the grave who shall give you thanks?

Psalm 146:4 - his breath goes forth, he returns to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

Ecclesiastes 9:5 - For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything; for the memory of them is forgotten. V6 - Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished....

Ecclesiastes 9:10 - ...for there is no work or device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom in the grave, where you go.

Isaiah 38:1 - ....Isaiah came to Hezekiah when he was sick unto death. Isaiah said to him, Thus says the LORD, set your house in order: for you shall die, and not live....

I Corinthians 15:42 - ....the body is sown in corruption; it is raised (by God) in incorruption: V44: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body...

There are many more scriptures I could share about what happens to our body and soul when we die. Some say our soul lives on, but that isn't true. The soul is your inward parts, thoughts, mind, heart etc.
