FAITH
Today I am talking about faith and the true month Christ was born. There are many people mentioned in the Bible about their strong Faith in God and his promises. Today I want to share Mary, the mother of Jesus and her faith. Faith is a gift from God.
An angel came to Mary with a message. By faith, she traveled to her cousin Elisabeth's house to tell her that she would bare a child and call his name Jesus. Since it is the season of man's celebration of Christmas, which the world says is the birth of Christ, I wanted to add this part about when Christ was truly born. Not to condemn any one because they celebrate Christ's birth. The main problem with Christ-mas is the Roman Catholic Church promoted this mass as a celebration of Christ's birth to bring more people into their church. But not until 300 years after Christ was born. You can find this to be true in History. In the Bible you will find the month he is born, but nothing else. No where in scripture will you find God telling anyone to celebrate or exactly when Christ was born. We should honor him daily, not just one time of the year. All the traditions of Christmas are man made traditions, many come from pagan tradition and for me and my house we will not follow the traditions of men. They are Not God's commands. If you feel the need to celebrate the birth of our Savior, please do it at the correct time, not a man made time. Give all your worship to him not others. Remember only him and share your love for only him. Although, we should love everyone, even our enemies.
When Mary came to Elisabeth's house the babe she was carrying leaped in her womb. Mary remained with Elisabeth for 3 months, before returning home. So going by that, Christ was born 6 months after John the Baptist. With that calculation, you will come to the month of September. In December in Israel it would have been winter time. So the shepherds and their sheep would be in the folds. But they were in the fields. So it would have been in warmer weather when Christ was born.
As I said before, Faith is a gift from God. What do we do with our gift of faith? Why can it be so easily shaken? (I am sharing this from someone else's devotion.) How many times have we LOST faith in God? in others? even in ourselves? Mary's faith did not promise her an easy life, in fact, Simeon told her that her heart would be pierced with a sword so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. Think of how often her faith was tested. How many of us has been tested in the same way? And yet she continued to believe.
God has given Mary to us for a sign that God is with us always, even in the darkest times, the most confusing time. If we continue to believe, to have faith, then we too, will be called "blessed" because our reward is peace of heart and mind in this world, and a place with Mary in the Lord's glorious kingdom.
Lord, we too are blessed to know your Son Jesus, and are so grateful for the gift of Faith. Help us to be like Mary and keep our faith strong in both the happy and challenging times of our lives. Amen.
