THE SOUL AND SPIRIT OF MAN
The primary distinction between soul and spirit in man is that the soul is animate life, or the seat of the senses, desires, affections, and appetites. The spirit connects or refuses to connect with God.
Our Soul is made up of our mind, emotions, and free will. The soul is our life.
Our Spirit was made to communicate, interact with God. the Spirit separates believers with unbelievers. The Spirit is what responds to Jesus Christ.
Psalm 139:14 "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made."
God made our bodies to carry us through this world. Our body is made of flesh and bones. Our flesh was made from the dust of the earth. Our bodies will decay and return to that state. Our body is our shell and is physical. Our body is our senses. The physical body isn't made to last.
The scripture says God formed us from the dust of the earth and breathed into our nostrils, and we became a living soul. I believe our spirit is God's breath and returns to the Father when we die. Our physical bodies do not become spirits and go to heaven. Many scriptures tells us the physical body is buried in the earth, and decays. Our hearts stop, we no longer breathe, or move or feel or see. Our brains stop functioning. Our bones remain in the grave until Christ returns. The righteous will come out of their graves at his coming and the righteous who are still alive, their bodies will be changed into immortal bodies that will live forever.
