JUDAS THE BETRAYER

I want to share  John 3:1  which refers to Nicodemus, a Pharisee, but a ruler of the Jews.  V2 - "The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto Him, Rabbi, we know thou art a teacher come from God: for no "man" can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him." To me this verse shows that God and Jesus are one, but are also two separate entities. Their names are interchanged a lot in scriptures, which to me can become very confusing as to if God and Christ are the same entity.  Jesus is part of God but not God. I believe there is only one true God. And one  Savior, his son the Lord Jesus Christ, who came to earth, in the flesh, and died on the cross. I do not believe God became Christ in the flesh and died on the cross. God is a spirit and he cannot die.

I listened to a sermon by Elder John Klassick of the COG7 in South Australia. I have tried to go thru the 4 Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and tell each one's story of Judas the Betrayer.

Matthew 26:20  Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve. (this was to eat the Passover meal.)  V21 - And as they did eat he said, "Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me." V22  And they were exceedingly sorrowful, and began everyone of them to say unto him, LORD, is it I?  V23  And he answered and said, He that dips his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.  V25  Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said to him, Thou hast said.

Mark 14:10 - Judas Iscariot one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests to betray him unto them.  V11  and when they had heard it they were glad and promised to give him money.  And he sought how he might conveniently betray Him. V16 - And his disciples went forth and came into the city...and they made ready the Passover.  V17  and in the evening he cometh with the twelve.  V18  And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, "Verily I say unto you, one of you which eateth with me shall betray me."  V19  And they began to be sorrowful and began to say unto him one by one, Is it I?  V20  Jesus answered and said unto them, "it is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish." V21
The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.

Luke 22:3 - Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.  V4 - Judas went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray Him to them.  V21 -  Christ speaking, "But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table."  V22 - Jesus speaking, "...but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!  V23 - the disciples began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.  V24 - but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It had been good for that man if he had not been born."  V25 - Then said Judas, which betrayed him, Master, is it I?  He said to him, "Thou hast said."

John 13:1 - Now before the feast of the Passover...Jesus knew that his hour had come... V2  Supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray Him.

Jesus institutes the emblems of the Lord Super Service to his disciples:

Matthew 26:26  And as they were eating (passover), Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, "Take, eat, this is my body."  V27 - And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink ye all of it;  V28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins."  V30 - And when they had sung a hymn, they went out into the Mount of Olives.  V36 - Jesus went the garden to pray and his disciples followed him. He said to them, "Sit here, while I go and pray yonder.  V37 - he then took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee and with a sorrowful and heavy heart, "Tarry here and watch with me."  V39 - he went a little farther and fell on his face and prayed saying, "Oh my Father, if it be possible...let this cup pass from me...

Mark 14:22 - Jesus took bread and blessed and brake it, and gave to them and said, "Take eat: this is my body."  V23 - he took the cup, when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.  V24 - and He said unto them, "This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many."  V26 - And when they had sung a hymn, they went out into the Mount of Olives.

Luke 22:15 - He said unto them, "With desire I have desired to eat the passover with you before I suffer."  V17 - And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, "Take this , and divide it, among yourselves:"  V19 - And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, "This is my body which is given for you, this do in remembrance of me."  V21 - Jesus, "But behold the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table."  V39 - And he came out, and went as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.

John 13:2 - And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him.  V4 - He riseth from supper, laid aside his garments; and took a towel and girded himself.  V5 - After he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. V6 - he cometh to Simon Peter, Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?  V8 - Peter saith to him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, "If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me."  V9 - Simon Peter saith unto Him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.  V10 - Jesus saith unto him, "He that is washed needeth not, save to wash his feet, but is clean, but not all.  V11 - For Jesus knew who should betray him; therefore said he, "Ye are not all clean."  V21 - "Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me."

After the emblems and the washing of the feet, Jesus and his disciples sang a hymn and went out in the garden to pray. This section of the story from the four gospels.

Matthew 26:29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's Kingdom. (We will partake of the Lord's Super in the Kingdom of God.)
V30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out into the Mount of Olives.  V36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, "Sit here, while I go and pray yonder".  V37  He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee on up the Mount of Olives.  V38  He said to his disciples, I am very sorrowful, even unto death, tarry here with me.  V39  He went a little farther and fell on his face, and prayed saying, O my Father if it be possible, let this cup pass from me...not as I will, but as thou wilt.  V40  He came to them and found them sleeping.  V42  He went away a second time, and prayed.  V43  He came and found them asleep again...
V44 Jesus  went away a third time.  V45  Then he came to them and said sleep on Now...behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
V47  And while he yet spoke, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elder of the people.
V48  Judas gave them a sign to know which was Jesus, whomsoever I kiss, that same is he; hold him fast.  V49  Judas came to Jesus and said, Mail, mater; and kissed him.  V50  And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come?  Then came they and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.

Mark 14:10  And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.  V11  When they heard him, the were glad, and promised to give him money, and he sought how he might contently betray him.  V18  And as they did eat, Jesus said, verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me, shall betray me.  (Judas had already conspired to betray him.)  V20  And he answered and said unto them, it is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish. *25  Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until the day that I drink it new in the Kingdom of God.  V26  And when they had sung a hymn, they went out into the Mount of Olives.  Next few verses tell the story of the betrayal of Jesus by Peter.  V41 ...the hour is come; behold, the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.  *V42  Rise up, let us go; lo he that betrayeth me is at hand.  *V43  And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.  V44  And he that betrayeth him and had given them a token, saying, whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away. (Judas took of the emblems with them, and all saw he was the betrayer, left and didn't go to the garden with them to pray.)  V45  And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.  V46  And they laid their hands on him, and took him.

Luke 22:30 That ye may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.  V31  And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, San hath desire to have you, that he may sift you as wheat.  V39  And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the Mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.  V45  He arose from prayers and found his disciples sleeping for sorrow.  V47  And while he yet spake, behold, a multi-tude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.  V48  But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?  V49  When they which were  about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?  V50  and one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.  V51 and Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and heled him.  V52  Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him. Be ye come out as against a thief, with swords and staves? V53  When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but now this is your hour, and the power of darkness.  V54 Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off.  Verses 55-62 betrayal by Peter.  V62  And peter went out an wept bitterly.  V63 the men that held Jesus mocked and smote him.  V64  they blind folded him on the face, and asked him saying, prophesy, who is it that smote thee?  V70  Then said they all, art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, ye say that I am.  V71  And they said, what need we any further witness?  For we have heard of his own mouth.

John 18:1  When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron where was a garden, into th4e which h entered, and his disciples.  V2  and Judas also, which betrayed him, Knew the place: for Jesus oft times resorted thither with his disciples.  V3  Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.  V4  Jesus knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, whom seek ye?  V5  They answered him, Jesus pof Nazareth.  Jesus said unto them, I am he.  And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them:  V6  As soon as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.  V7  He asked them again, whom week ye?  And they said Jesus of Nazareth.  V8  I have told you that I am he:  if therefore you seek me, let these go their way.  V10  Peter drew his sword and smote the right ear off the servant of the high priest.  V11  Jesus told Peter to pus away his sword.  The cup which my father hath given me, shall I not drink it?  V12  Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him.

After his betrayal, Jesus was led away to the high priest for judgment. He was found guilty by the crowd and his punishment was DEATH.  How sad, to be sentenced to die when you have committed no crime!
