JAMES FMILY posted by Larry James

Thomas Potts James (1803-1882) of Radnor Township, Chester County, PA and Isaac Daniel James, Sr. (1770-1853) of Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, PA are second cousins once removed according to the Table of Sanguinity following the Revolutionary War. Thomas' side of the family remained in Pennsylvania establishing the Pennsylvania Line in our James Family.

Following the Revolutionary War, Isaac migrated to Bedford County, Virginia and established the Virginia Line in the James Family.  Before today we were already familiar with the image of Thomas.  However before today Isaac was completely unknown.  Isaac Daniel James, Sr. was discovered by Kathleen Dooley Wolf of Bedford County, VA.  She found the picture behind a glass-framed oil painting that had been handed down five generations.  Kathleen inadvertently discovered a very old photograph of a sketched image of Isaac dating back to 1830s while cleaning the glass that encased the oil painting, behind which the image was concealed.  This photo represents the oldest known image of a James family ancestor.  It is fascinating to think that when Isaac Daniel James was born, the United States of America had not even been thought of.  Isaac was a fourth generation colonist and subject to the English Crown.  He was only five years old when the United States was founded.

Interesting historical factoid:  At Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, Los Angeles County, California, you will find the graves of members of our James family including Joseph McDonald James (1844-1923) of Londonderry, Guernsey County, Ohio; and the children of Jesse Woodson James the Civil War Soldier and notorious train robber, and his wife Zerelda Mimms James including their son "Tim" Jesse Edwards James, Jr. ( He wasn't a junior) (1875-1951) of Nashville, Tennessee.
(from the records of the Jesse and Frank James Family, there is also a tombstone for Jesse Woodson James.  He was buried on the family farm in Kearney, Missouri.  DNA test was done and found to be his body in the grave.)
