SUPER SABBATH WEEK-END

Hello fellow bloggers.  It is getting late in the morning.  Almost noon.  I haven't been to my blog in a while.  I have been trying to decide what I wanted to post next on Starlight's Journal.  I have read several articles
but I can't decide if I want to share what I have been reading.

I have decided to share with you the Super Sabbath Meetings for the state of Oklahoma. There is one in each quarter of the year. In our organization, as long as I can remember in the State of Oklahoma has had what we call Quarterly Meetings every quarter.  There are four quarters in the year.  1st quarter is January, February and March.  So the first Quarterly Meeting was in the month of January.  2nd quarter is April, May and June.  2nd Quarterly Meeting was in April.  3rd quarter is July, August and September.  3rd Quarterly Meeting in July and then the 4th quarter is October, November and December.  The 4th Quarterly Meeting was
in October.

In later years, since we started having the Dover Family Camp in June
every year, June was considered the 3rd quarter meeting at the camp
instead of in July where it used to be.  I don't remember what year the
Oklahoma Conference changed the name of the All Day Services to
Super Sabbath instead of a Quarterly Meetings.  There was another
thing changed with these meetings.  Back in the 60s my grandpa was
the State Conference Chairman.  He had two attendance banners made up. One for Church Attendance and one for Youth Attendance.  At the
quarterly meetings, there was a list of congregations and the mileage
from the visiting church to the host church.  The church attendance at the Worship Service plus the mileage would be the winner of the Banner.  Same as with the Youth.

The Banners were falling apart.  So the Oklahoma Conference had a competition for the design of the new banners.  There was only two entries that I ever heard about.  So they didn't have a competition and no winner.
I think there should have been a vote between the two entries. The person
in charge of the competition didn't follow through with it.  So New Banners were never made and there isn't a competition anymore.  I think this was an encouragement for the churches to attend the Quarterly Meetings.

The last two years preceding this pandemic, the Oklahoma Conference had started having the October Super Sabbath at the Dover Campgrounds All day Sabbath Services. Meals provided for Friday thru Sunday morning. You could come early if you wanted to and stay in the dorms or tents, RVs, or travel trailers, but if you come early you need to furnish your own food. Spend a night or two before the Super Sabbath.  Also spend Saturday night and then on Sunday morning the Oklahoma Conference Annual Business Meeting would take place. But since the pandemic that hasn't taken place and neither has Family Camp. Please pray that the Camp will be able to commence.  The dates set for Dover Family Camp is June 13-19, Sunday thru Saturday.  Head home on Sunday. Hope to see you there.

This past Sabbath April 24th was the Super Sabbath.  The host church
was Fort Smith, Arkansas.  You might wonder why the State of Oklahoma
Super Sabbath was at an Arkansas Church.  The Super Sabbaths are open to anybody from anywhere that wants to drive the distance.  A few years back the Oklahoma Conference took in the Fort Smith Church into our Super Sabbaths.  The other churches in Arkansas are to far way for them  to fellowship with. We the Oklahoma churches are closer to Fort Smith than the others in Arkansas.  The Super Sabbath set for January was canceled.  The last one we had was in October of 2020 at the Claremore COG7.  It was a very wonderful sabbath and fellowship.  Huge pot luck for lunch.  So much food.  I was truly blessed by attending and fellowshipping with those of like faith.  It is always a blessing to see church family that I haven't seen in a while.  Some I hadn't seen in over a year.  You just don't have enough time to visit with everyone you would like to.

My husband and I made this past week-end a mini vacation.  We took off on Friday after he got in from work.  We packed up and headed for Spring dale, Arkansas.  Found a nice clean hotel Quality Suites at a good price to stay in and a great place to eat supper, Angus Jack's. We got up early Saturday morning and headed for Fort Smith.  It is about 109 miles from our house to Springdale. It is 69 miles from Springdale to Fort Smith. One way Rick drove 170 miles.  Round trip 340 miles. It is a beautiful drive down Hwy49 in Arkansas.  There is a tunnel on this road in the Boston Mountains.  Did you know there are mountains in Arkansas?  When in school, if I remember correctly, we were taught the difference between a mountain and a hill is the height of the range.  I looked it up on google and it said there isn't really a difference between the two.  Hills are rolling up and down and connected at the bottom. A moun-tain starts at the bottom and goes up. Mountains are not connected one to the other like hills are.  You now have your geography lesson for the day.

On the way home Saturday evening we were both very tired.  We might have spent the night in Fort Smith, but we didn't want to get up very early to head home in time for the Senior Breakfast at the Claremore COG7 on
Sunday morning.  Rick drives many miles during the week for his job.  I
wondered if he would make it adding more miles onto the week.  I knew
he wouldn't let me drive, and I knew I wouldn't be able to drive very far,
because of my sleep apnea.  I couldn't stay awake going home.

On Sunday morning at the breakfast there were some very tired people from the long drive on Sabbath.  We weren't the only ones who attended the Super Sabbath from the local church.  If I counted correctly there were about 15 of us from the Claremore COG7. I wish more of our church would have attended the Super Sabbath.  I am sure part of the reason is the continue pandemic.

I hope I haven't bored you with my run down of my weekend.  As I have stated before, this is my journal and really to help myself stay sane.  I chose to share it to my friends and family, incase any of you are interested in what is going on in my life, or the local church and church family.

Take care, and may God continue to bless you.
