ANOTHER DAY FOR RENEWING LICENSE

Hello, This is a post about the second day of trying to get my husband's license renewed. I posted this on facebook about what happened the first day we tried to get his renewed. I then posted an update today.

The first day was Monday March 1, 2021. My husband's license expired February 28, 2021. We knew he needed to get his renewed and he had a 30 days grace period before he would get a ticket for an expired license. What we didn't know was how hard it would be to just walk in to any Tag Agency to get it done. Our local Tag Agency no longer do new or renewals on license. So we have to go to another Tag Agency in a near by town.

This has been a nightmare. We have called several Tag Agency that will not answer their phones, or it rings and rings until you give up and try again. My husband found out that some places will take walk-ends, but most will only take the first 25 in their door first thing after opening. We were told about one that took walk-ins all day long till closing at 5:00 p.m. So he decided to go there to get his renewed. I had appointments at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa. Ido not drive in Tulsa anymore so someone has to take me. It is usually our youngest daughter. My husband wanted to take me this time since he had already taken off work to go get his license renewed.

So on Monday we head to Tulsa for my appointments. He planned to take me first and then go to the Tag Agency. He called ahead to make sure they could get him in that day. They said he could get in line and they would get to everyone they could until 5:00 p.m. He got to got to thinking that if he waited until after my appointments he might not get in. So he decided we could do both at the same time. He dropped me off at CTCA and headed for the Tag Agency. He got there before they opened but there was already fifteen people in line ahead of him.

The first two or three went pretty fast. One worker told him they could usually do a person in about 15 minutes. So he thought that is great, he would get his license renewed and then come and be with me at my last appointment of the day. But that didn't happen! Mistakes started being made and it was taking about 30 minutes or more to take care of each person. He finally had to leave so he could be on time to pick me up. When he text to tell me he was on his way, there were still six people in front of him. I wish now he had stayed and gotten them renewed. It wouldn't have hurt for me to wait on him. I didn't have any place else to be that day, but he had an eye appointment at 1:30 p.m. in another town. He didn't want to be late for that.

We kept running into problems after leaving Tulsa. He called one Agency and they told him they couldn't get him in until April. He was told we could go to the Tag Agency in the town where his appointment was, so we drove by the Agency and saw a sign on the door that you have to make an appointment. My husband walked in and asked if he could get his license renewed. They informed him he had to make an appointment. There were 6 women sitting around doing nothing, but couldn't help him for 30 minutes right then. No way hosea, he still had to make an appointment. He scheduled one for April 20, 2021 at Noon.

On Tuesday, he goes in to work and they ask him if he remembered his license had expired. He told them yes, he did. They asked why he hadn't gotten it done by now. They informed him that you can renew your license and year in advance. Did any of you out there know that? I sure didn't. His supervisor jumped all over him for driving on an expired license. You have a 30 days grace period to get your license renewed. It has been extended to 60 days now. They still wanted him to get them done asap, even after him telling them he had an appointment in April. That wasn't good enough.

So guess what we did today after he got home from work?  You guessed it. We tried to find a place to get his license renewed. Don't rely on what people tell you they know. You need to always call and check the Tag Agencies if they take walk-ins.  A guy he works with told him he could go into the Oologah Tag Agency that day and get his renewed. So we took his word for it and drove over there to find out the guy was wrong.  Another wasted trip. You still had to make an appointment and they didn't have any openings until the last of June.  Only two or three other people in the place. The woman working in there said he could do it online, but he doesn't trust the mail.

We heard of one more place to try.  We drove there, not a lot of people waiting. We thought okay great we will get this done now. He got up to the window and asked if he could get his license renewed.  The
woman said yes.  She asked him if he had such and such for proof of residency. He did. So then she says we only take walk-ins first thing of a morning and only take the first 25. You will have to make an appointment unless you come back in the morning. Drat!  Another wasted afternoon. His employer will just have to wait until April.

A word of advice, if yours expires this year, call and get an appointment TODAY!  Mine doesn't expire until next year, so I was going to get me the new ID license although I don't need it to fly. I have a passport. We have never flown and do not plan to at all. I haven't made an appointment, but it might be a good idea to make an appointment for next year.
