WHY DID JESUS FOLD THE LINEN BURIEL CLOTH?

In the gospel of John (20:7) tells us that the napkin, which was placed over the face of Jesus, was not just thrown aside like the grave clothes. An entire verse is used in Bible to tell us that the napkin was neatly folded and placed separate from the grave clothes.

Early Sunday morning (the first day of the week)  while it was yet dark Mary Magdalene and the other Mary and one other woman, came to the tomb and found the great stone rolled away from the entrance. She ran from the tomb and headed toward town in tears.  She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple that was called the one whom Jesus loved.  She cried to Simon Peter, "They have taken the Lord's body out of the tomb (Jesus had risen), and I don't know where they have taken him! Come see where he layed."

Simon Peter and the other disciple ran to the tomb to see....The other disciple outran Peter and got there first. He stopped and looked in and saw the linen cloth laying there, but he didn't go in.  Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also saw the linen wrappings lying there, while the linen cloth that covered Jesus face (and head) was folded up and laying to the side.

Was that important that it was folded and set aside? Absolutely!
Is it really significant?  YES!

In order to understand the significances of the folded linen cloth, you have to understand a little bit about Hebrew traditions of that day.  the folded linen cloth had to do with the rolls of the Master and Servant. When the Servant set the dinner table for the his Master, he made sure that it was set exactly as the Master wanted it....when the table was furnished perfectly, the servant would wait, just out of site of his Master until the Master was finished. When the Master was done eating, he would rise from the table, wipe his fingers and his mouth and beard, then wad up the napkin and toss it onto the table.  The servant would then know to clear the table. In those days, the wadded napkin meant, "I am Done!"

But if the Master got up from the table, folded the napkin, and laid it by his plate, the servant would not dare touch the table....because the folded napkin meant, 'I'm coming back!'

The Master is Coming Back!

Praise the Name of Jesus!
