THE 4TH COMMANDMENT
Wow, for me it is a little hard to believe another year has come and gone. Each year seems to go buy faster than the last. One of the things that seems to happen when getting older. Time goes by so fast.
We haven't been attending services the past few weeks. Our church is open and has been since the last two Sabbaths of May. I had shoulder surgery on the 21st of December. I think I mention that on an earlier post. I really did a number on my right rotator cuff. The saddest part is, it is my right shoulder. Have you ever injured your right, hand, arm or shoulder on your and had to learn to do a lot of things with your left? That's me. I should have had surgery about 6 months ago, but misunderstood my doctor. Please continue to remember me in your prayers.
Every Sabbath we turn on YouTube to listen to sermon's by different speakers. IOG and West Australia COG7 are livestreamed. Those are the main ones. Then Elder Lewin at Westside OKC COG7, pre-recorded messages of Elder Wesley Walker from the McAlester COG7. We have now found a Dr. Gene Kim (not medical doctor), who is a very interesting presenter. We have watched a few of his videos this past Sabbath. Our Pastor Barry Mauldin, put his sermons on facebook until the church was opened again. Elder Bud Ullrich from the Tahlequah COG7, who is a cousin of me and my husband, puts his sermons on face book every Sabbath.
Yesterday on the livestream from West Australia with Elder John Klassick, he showed a mini sermon by Dennis Prater of the COG7. The subject was "The Fourth Commandment. I want to share that with you today.
You will find the 4th commandment in Exodus 20:8. (my note: you can find the 10 listed in other places, but this is the most popular scripture used today.) The seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God.... Life at that point in time was all about work. The people worked 7 days a week. No days off for rest.
In Deut. Chapter 28, Moses talks about slavery and the Sabbath. A slave owner was never obligated to give a slave a day off from work, but God does. He gives, rest for slaves, gives families time together after a busy week, the Sabbath also gives rest to the animals. With this in mind, you will see the owners of animals are less likely to abuse them, if there is one day of rest.
God plays another important part in this day of rest. Creation ends after the 6th day of creation. In six days God made the Heavens and the earth, and God rested the 7th day from all his work, and hallowed it. (my note: God doesn't need rest, but wanted a day of rest to relax after a long week of work. The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.)
Note: Read Exodus 20:1-17 (KJV) This is the most quoted scripture of the the Ten Commandments. They are found other places in the Old and New Testament, but the main one used by most is in Exodus 20. You will find the 4th Commandment in verse 8. In verse 1: And God spake all these words saying, "Thou shalt not have no other god's before me."
I hope those reading this blog, gets a little bit more knowledge of the Bible. There are so many translations of the Bible out there today that are used in one church. It gets very confusing to me what translation of the Bible to use. I think the use of different versions causes confusion in the church. While growing up, our church used the KJV only. (COG7 Claremore, OK) I thought most COG7's used that version also, but over the years I have found out, I was wrong in thinking that.
Love to all my facebook friends, family and church family,
