POST OP SURGEON'S VISIT

January 5 is finally here.  Today I go to the doctor for him to take out my stitches from the surgery he performed on my right shoulder on December 21, 2020.  (The nurse actually took my stitches out.) I can't wait to get the tape strips off my incisions.  Itchy, Itchy, Itchy.  One step closer to being back to normal.  Or should I say my normal.

I haven't been wearing my sling except when I go out for any length of time. The first person I see is the nurse. She comes in with my file, and asks how I am doing and what level my pain is.  I am comfortable.  Then I get the chance to rant that I have been waiting for.  This was before I saw my Surgeon, Dr. Ogg.

My surgery was out patient. I had went for my pre-op appointment at the hospital. Nice that I knew my check-in nurse. We are kind of related through marriage. Her name is Stacey Smalley. When she first came in she looked familiar, but I couldn't place her. I asked her to tell me her name again, and that is when I recognized her.  She at first couldn't place me either.  We share a uncle and aunt. My mom's brother is Charles Hinds, Sr. which makes him my uncle.  He married Gail Roof, which is Stacey's great aunt. Her grandma's sister. The last time we had seen each other was in Aunt Gail's hospital room back in 2017.

I went to Hillcrest Claremore for my surgery. Because of the COVID restrictions no one can stay with me. Our daughter Cortnie takes me and drops me off at the hospital at 5:45 a.m. My check-in time is 6:30 a.m. I get checked in and it isn't long until my name is called. I am put in a space to undress and put my hospital gown on. Dr. Ogg comes by and tells me, he has one patient before me. I have no idea what time it is or what time my surgery will be. The staff comes and gets the first patient and takes her to the operating room. A few minutes after I ask what time it was. 8:09 a.m.

It seems but a short time the anethesist comes in to give me my block in my neck and puts me to sleep. I told the nurse and anesthetist that because of the restrictions my pastor couldn't be there.  The anesthetist looks at my nurse and then turns to me and asks me if I want them to pray for me. WOW! That was a big surprise. He then asks the nurse if she wants to say the prayer but she tells him to do it. I lay down on the bed on my left side and all of a sudden I wake up. The surgery is over with. I am back from where I started. I have a sling on, the nurse is telling me to get dressed, it's time to go home. While I am dressing, the nurse calls my brother Larry to pick me up.   Hands me a bag with my jacket in it and leads me out to my brother. All I am told is here are the scripts the doctor ordered and to say they have already been called in to my pharmacy.

Don't get me wrong, I had good care while I was in the hospital. Just the lack of instructions at the time of my release. I get to Dr. Ogg's (Aug) office. I have my sling on, but no pillow. He looks at me and says, where is your pillow? I reply, at home.  He then proceeds to tell me how bad my injury was and that he wants me to wear my sling and pillow 24/7 until I come back for my six weeks appointment. What a shock! With my release papers from the hospital, there were written instructions but not enough and not very clear to me. I wasn't to be doing much of anything for the first two weeks. I will be going for therapy.  He said they are taking it very slow because of the severity of the damage to my shoulder.

Please continue to keep me in your prayers.
