Happy Sabbath

I know it is already after the Sabbath, but this is my entry for the Sabbath.  We were few in number today.  For several weeks before the Super Sabbath at Dover Family Camp our attendance has been down.  I pray everyone will be back soon from sickness or whatever is keeping them from attending services.  We had a good sermon from Pastor Barry on the last chapter of Daniel.  This is the last lesson in our series.  It has been a very interesting series.

The Women's group has started a short six week study on "In the Middle of the Mess by Sheila Wash.  It is one about brokenness.  The first lesson was in October.  I missed that one.  I totally forgot about it.  The second session was this past Friday night November 2, 2018.  I got my book and had looked over it some, but there was so much to look over and study, I got very discouraged.  The sessions being on Friday night's after sundown is a problem for me.  I do not drive much after dark anymore.  I didn't want to depend on someone else to drive me.  I planned to go before dark and sundown to Claremore (I live 15 miles away in Inola) and pick up a few things.  That way I would only be driving back home after dark.  It was getting close to time for me to leave, I was still washing dishes right before sundown and I wasn't able to leave before dark. My daughter rescued me.  She had told be before she would drive me to the sessions and wait on me in the car.  She wasn't interested in taking part in the study. I was a little late, but the session hadn't started yet.  I don't know who all signed up, but there were only 3 of us Friday night.  The devil really tried to discourage me from attending.  I just wasn't really into.  I am glad I went anyway.  It was a good study.  As one of the ladies commented she didn't think it would take us long to get through it.  The time is suppose to be about an hour.  We were there for almost two hours.  Please pray for me that I will study and be ready to go to the next session on November 9.

There is a work day at the Dover Camp grounds tomorrow (Sunday the 4th).  The crew is hoping to get the plumbing and electric in and smooth out the dirt so the slab can be poured.  The plan is to have the outside of the new building to be up by camp time next summer.  After getting the big donation to start on the building, they were hoping to have it completed by camp 2019.  It doesn't look like that will be accomplished.  They will need more funds to complete the inside and get new appliances.  Pray for this project that donations will continue to come in and fund raisers done to add more funds to the project.

My husband and I usually go to the work days and cleaning days at Dover Camp. He just went off the Oklahoma Conference Board.  He is also on the local church board, so he chose to stay home and work on the renovations on the local dinning hall.  The crew hired to repair the floors have the sub floor finished.  A lot had to be done underneath with the floor joists, many had rotted.  The floor was falling through.  They had been repaired a few times over the years.  In 1952 my grandpa Elder Ross Johnston moved to Oklahoma from Arizona to direct the work in the vicinity.  A building program was launched in the winter of 1952 to add a sanctuary to the old building from Inola (moved in Nov. of 1948) and turn the old chapel into classrooms.  The building got under way and the new chapel and restrooms were dedicated on February 21, 1953.  The walls have never been insulated even with all the remodeling that has been done over the years.  The old sheet rock was torn out. Insulation will be put in the walls and new sheet rock put up. The drop down part of the ceiling in the back end of the dinning hall is being removed. The inside work is going to be done by the local members of the church who can help. The crew doing the renovations on the floor is going to put in a few more outlets in the dinning hall.  That will be a big help.  New windows are being put in to replace to old ones.  One of our local members has been putting in a lot of hours on tearing out the old floor and the walls.  This saved us a lot of money. The local crew will also be hauling off the trash from the sight.  My husband and I went by on Tuesday to see how things were going.  The hired crew was just finishing up the sub floor.  We walked across it and jumped up and down.  It no longer shakes when you do that and the floor doesn't feel like it is about to fall through with you.  They have done a great job.

Thanksgiving will soon be here.  We should be thankful every day all year round.  This is a special day set aside in America by was made a national Holiday  set aside to show our thankfulness to God for his many blessings.  Many ask why do you choose to celebrate Thanksgiving but not Christmas, Easter or Halloween?  The thing is this celebration is not a heathen celebration or ceremony.  It doesn't have dark roots such as Halloween or untruths such as Christmas and Easter.  Usually I try to write a history of how Thanksgiving came about in America.  Many stories have been told about the first Thanksgiving which are false.  I am going to copy the article by Valerie Strauss which she wrote November 24, 2016.  She shared it again this year.  I am going to post her article on face book.  I pray you have a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving.  Give God the glory and praise.

God bless
