Reviving the 21st Century Church
You may wonder what this blog is about today. The Claremore, Oklahoma Church of God (7th Day) had a revival this past week with Elder Calvin Burrell as speaker for three nights. I guess it would be called a mini revival. I was unable to attend the first two nights, which was Thursday and Friday nights. The theme for the revivial was Reviving the 21st Century Church.
On Sabbath we had a full day. We usually have children's church on the first Sabbath of the month, but they moved it to the second sabbath this month. Elder Burrell was the speaker for the Worship Service. This was followed by pot luck lunch. (We usually have pot luck every second Sabbath.) On Sabbath we had an afternoon service of songs and readings beginning at 2:00 p.m. This was followed by supper, which the church provided for all who wanted to come and join us. That evening beginning at seven o'clock p.m., Elder Burrell brought the last evening's message.
There was a special bulletin printed for the revivial services. On the back this was printed:
The Picture of a Vibrant
21st Century Church
* Christ-Centered
* Distinct, Not Esclusive
* Sabbath-Observing
* Spirit-Formed* Bible-Based
* Passionate in Worship
* Compassionate in Service
* Aggressive in Witness
* Strong in Fellowship
* Committed to Discipleship
Each night and the worship service on Sabbath had a theme. I have listed the theme's below:
* Thursday Evening - To a Wounded, Shaking World (On Service and Witness)
* Friday Evening - To a Grateful, Trusting Church (On Worship and
Discipleship)
* Sabbath Morning - Treasures of Our Heritage (On Christ, The Sabbath, The spirit, and the Bible)
* Sabbath Evening - Ten Commands for one Another (On the Fellowship of Love)
Elder Burrell presented a good message each evening and on Sabbath Morning. We had a nice crowd on Sabbath. During the Worship Service, we had about 70 in attendance. I know this doesn't sound like a lot to many of you, because your regular attendance is usually at least that and more. Our church group only has an average attendance of about 35. We have lost a few to other COG7 groups. We are hoping this revival will bring some new pepole in. Please pray for the church in Claremore.
