"Sunday" The First Day of The Week
Hello all. This is Sunday the first day of the week. Not the Seventh Day Sabbath as taught in the Bible. You may be asking why I started out this way. It just came to me. The doctrine of the church I attend and am a memeber of, Church of God (7th Day), teaches we should observe the Seventh Day Sabbath instead of Sunday the first day of the week. The Catholic Church is who changed our day of Worship. You can look it up for yourselves. I hope you will. I hope you will study for yourselves, what day we should worship on.
Just wanted to keep in contact with what little readers I might have. This is mostly for my benefit, not yours. But I do hope you will get something out of it too. I had meant to bring a different subject each time I posted. One time being on faith, the next on family and then possibly other things that might come to mind. So far I haven't stuck to that. It has mostly been what was on my mind at the time.
The subject I want to talk about has to do with family history. On my husband's mom's side, the Thomassons, my hubby's first cousin Billy Thomasson, was only married once and had one son by Susan his wife. But come to find out, he has about 17 children. They are getting acquainted with each other by facebook. Or atleast that is what I understand. There are five that I know of at this time. If they would all like to get in contact with each other, I hope they do. I pray they do, if it is the Lord's will. I knew Billy before I knew my husband. A lot of my husband's family came into our church in the early sixties. Grandma Thomasson Holland had 11 children. Her dad was a minister in the Church of God (7th Day) when the Headquarters were at Stanberry, Missouri. That is where Grandma Holland grew up, although she was born in Abline, Kansas. Her dad's name was Lorenzo Dow Maple. When Grandma married, she didn't marry in the church, so her children weren't raised in the church. One of her daughters, Lucille, and her husband Cotton Ullrich became members of the Adventist Church in California. Later moving back to Oklahoma.
In about 1964, my grandpa Elder Ross Johnston, a minister of the Church of God (7th Day), held a tent meeting in Coweta, Oklahoma. That is where Grandma Holland and her family lived. Some in Porter, but most in Coweta. At that tent meeting Grandma Holland and 10 of her children joined the church. The only two who didn't, were Aunt Jayne, who had died, and my mother-in-law Judi. When my husband was in about the 6th grade in school, his mom and dad started keeping the doctrines of our church. Judi and her husband, Gene James, had seven children. In about 1975 all the kids started attending the Church of God (7th Day) in Coweta, Oklahoma. That is when I met my husband Ricky James. Three of those kids were baptized, Ricky, Kay, and Betty. Joanie, the oldest was married, and then David, John and Darrin didn't take that step. In later years Ricky's mom and his youngest brother Darrin became members of the World Wide Church of God in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
My husband and I were married on July 24, 1977 in the Church of God (7th Day) in Claremore, Oklahoma. My Grandpa Johnston perform the ceremony. I didn't send out individual invitations. Since we have so many churches in this area, that I had family in, I sent one mostly to the churches. In doing that I saved money on invitations, but we had about 150 quests at the wedding. Ricky was so nervous. When we were being married, he was sweating so much, we watched a drop of sweat drip down from the front of his hair and land on his shoe. He said when he looked out and saw the church was full, he about passed out. That was 32 years ago July 24, 2009. I guess after all this time, he's a keeper.
I hope this will be a good week. I didn't get to work Friday, so I am hoping Diana will let me work tomorrow to make it up. We will see. Please say a little prayer for me.
God Bless
