Happy Sabbath America!

Good Morning America and Happy Sabbath to you. It's about 8:30 a.m. Central Standard Time. I decided to write my blog before heading for church. I have been up since about 6:15 a.m. I took my youngest daughter, Cortnie, to meet my cousin Jeanette's family. They are on their way to Shawnee, Oklahoma for the Oklahoma State Quarterly Meeting Super Sabbath. This Super Sabbath comes about every 3 months throughout the year. It is a time of fellowship and worship that can't be beat. I don't know what year the church started holding these meetings. Use to after sundown on Sabbath, the Oklahoma State Church Board would meet. I don't think they still do this.

My grandpa, Elder Ross Johnston, was on the State Board for many years, several times. He use to haul a load of youth to these meetings from the local church. It was convenient for him to stay late, for the youth activities after sun down. Many parents didn't want to wait around that long. He usually had a car load. He would attend the board meeting while the youth were at their activities. I have traveled a many of a mile with him in my teens.

This is the first time for my youngest daughter to attend a Super Sabbath in Shawnee. She has never been in the church there. I have many times in my teens for all day meetings and retreats. I have fond memories of those times. I have been wanting to go back to Shawnee and see the church now. They have built a new building since the last time I was there. Come to think of it, I might have been in it once, several years ago. I believe my husband and I went with my Grandpa and Grandma Johnston, but I don't remember what the building was like. I would love to visit sometime soon. It's too far for me to drive, with the problems I sometime have with falling asleep at the wheel. Someone suggested I catch a ride with someone. That would be nice, but most of the ones I could ride with, usually have a full load. The local group in Claremore is very active in going to these meetings and has been for many years.

I have a very special prayer to put before you. My oldest daughter has a friend, who is going through a child custody battle of his two young children. They are 10 and 7. His ex-wife has remarried and is expecting twins. They have been sharing joint custody, but the dad is trying to get full custody. All the dad has done is tried to take care of them. The youngest, a boy, is out of control. It has been a real battle. The boy is fascinated by fire. They have to watch him closely. But an incident happened this past week and the children have been taken from their dad and he has been told, he will not be able to see or talk to them for a long time.

The dad was burning brush in the back yard. His son, who is seven, and my grandson, who is 9 , were with him. I guess they had been at it for quiet some time. The dad needed to get a drink of water and my daughter had just drove up. The dad and my daughter checked to see where and what exactly the boys were doing. They were well away from the fire and sitting in chairs. The dad thought okay things are under control. I am going to go in and get a drink of water.

How wrong he was! Right after he left to go get a drink, his son got a jug of gasoline and was going to pour it on the fire. My grandson, kept telling him NO! Don't do that it is dangerous. The little boy wouldn't listen. I guess the fire leaped up and caught the jug of gas on fire. My grandson kept yelling, stop, drop and roll. The little boy was so frightened, all he would do was stand there and scream. He pulled off his shirt, but wouldn't roll on the ground. I don't know how the fire was put out, but the boys went running into the house. The little boy's arm underneath had 1st and 2nd degree burns. It synged his hair, burnt his lips, one ear and one hand. They think he must have splashed the gasoline on his body. My daughter and the little boys dad loaded up the kids and headed for the hospital to the emergency room.

The hospital kept the boy overnight so they could run some tests and make sure he hadn't enhailed any gas into his lungs and to see if he would need skin grafts. DHS was called. The dad went to take my daughter and her two children home. When he got back to the hospital, he was told to leave. That is when he was informed he wouldn't be able to see the kids for a long time. How fair is that? He has always tried to look out for his kids. He rushed the little boy to the hospital in time. It could have been worse. Yes, he probably shouldn't have left the boys alone, but he did. It was an accident.

You can only imagine how upset this dad is. He loves his kids very much, and wants to be with them always. They need your prayers. Please lift them up to God for healing of the boy, the custody battle to be over, and the children in a safe and happy place.

Thanks in advance for your prayers.
