"PICNIC SUNDAY!"
Why Picnic Sunday?, you might ask. Today the church in Claremore had a Church Picnic at Claremore Lake. We use to have one atleast once during the Summer, but it has been a few years, since the last one. It was a beautiful day. The weather was great. We had most of the church there. There were a few missing. They missed out a good meal. We had grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, deviled eggs (at a church picnic?), chips and all kinds of desserts including home-made ice cream. YUM! Of course I ate too much as usual. Instruments were brought, but I didn't hear anyone play them. They may have before I got there. I was a little late. It was advertised to bring outside games. I didn't see any of those either. We mostly just visited, which we had just seen most everyone yesterday at Church. But we always have a nice visit with one another.
On Sabbath, Brother Steven Zuraff and his wife Rebecca, was up from Shawnee. Brother Zuraff brought a wonderful message. I really enjoyed it. We had another visiting couple with us also from the Shawnee Church, but they live in Owasso, Oklahoma, Mike and Marsha Mauldin. It was great to see them. We love having visitors, but don't really consider them visitors if they are from one of our concgregations in another part of the US or Oklahoma. They are our brothers and sisters in Christ. Always great to have them with us.
September 21, was one month since I retired from the library. I thought I would miss it, but I don't. I have kept myself busy at home getting caught up on some things that I have put off for quite some time. What I do miss is the people. I had been there a long time and had gotten to know some quite well. I have been running into a few in town and they say they miss me. That makes me feel good.
Dover campgrounds is starting a new building. When the Lane, Oklahoma church closed its doors and the Oklahoma Conference sold the building, the members left, donated the money to the Dover Camp. A multi-purpose building is to be built with the money. This Summer they had a ground breaking ceremony at camp. It is to be named after the Lane Church. It will include a chapel area, I think classrooms, bathrooms, nursery and offices. It is be built next the new dormitories. The original plans were to add a sanctuary to the dormitories but that was changed. They are building a whole new building not attached.
Last week-end the footings were marked off and dug for the new building. But the guy who dug them made a mistake. So they had to be redone today. They will be a little behind schedule. Also I was informed today that the land right next to the campgrounds is finally being offered to us at a low enough amount. I am sure it will be purchased soon. That makes 3 lots next to the campgrounds that has been bought in the last couple of years. I don't think there are any plans for the land at this time. I think they will be left pretty much alone, so there won't be more mowing to be done.
I think I have talked in your ear long enough. The bunch here is getting restless and hungry. Its time for me to put on my apron and fix something to eat. Until next time, God Bless.
